I looked out the window and what did I see...

Jen's old apartment. I sit at that desk and do my work on my laptop and it makes me all nostalgic for those days when all it took to hang out with Jen was to go to the gate in the backyard. Here's a close-up...

And here's a picture of me all moved in. And the gorgeous quilt my mom made for me on the bed.

Yes, my parents love fans and are storing theirs in my room (well, it is theirs after all).

I put my first poll up. Have fun :)

I discovered that there is such a thing as a wookieepedia-a whole wiki devoted to Star Wars. I thought the name was hilarious. Must have been late at night.

So for my editing job, I am editing a bank of test questions for a reading comprehension/critical thinking class. The funny thing is, the test writers can't understand the objectives or can't critically think well enough to write questions that fit the objective. The irony is that this bank is the worst bank I have editied so far. I have had to send all of the questions back to the writer with specific instructions on how to write the question and what the objective is saying. You'd think if they were in charge of writing questions about critical thinking they should be able to understand an objective and write a question that tests it.

So the new U2 single is being played all day by this page from their official site. If you liked "Vertigo" (not my favorite), then you'll probably like this one. Good message overall, but I am still unsure of the delivery.

Oh and here's a performance of them playing at the pre-inaguration concert.

Just ignore the goatee that is heavy on the mustache which from a distance makes him look like a certain German leader who did not fight for the rights of other races. Obama doesn't look like he's having that great a time. And Jen, though this may be a little bit like Yanni playing at the acropolis, I can only comfort myself with the fact that they didn't choose the locale. I just wonder what Abraham Lincoln would think of these rock stars playing on the steps. It is so strange to see his statue behind them.

I finished writing all the questions for the temporary job I have and it feels great. Wahoo. I also got caught up on my editing job.

On a less productive note... I subscribe to netflix and use it mostly to get music documentaries (hence the Nirvana pictures in the last post). Out of the about five movies I've gotten, I can really only recommend Mostly Martha (most of the world has appreciated this one already), and I loved the Shakespeare Retold versions of Taming of the Shrew (a bit shocking at times) and Much Ado about Nothing (a bit cheesy ocasionally-but really interesting). Here is a trailer for them (along with the two others in the set).

This may sound judgmental, but who would have thought that the bassist for Nirvana would nowadays look like he founded Microsoft in Seattle instead of grunge music?

I might have thought he would look something like this

or this

but no, he looks like this now

Who also would have thought that a style of clothing that I love, love, love (and wish was still in style) was made famous by Nirvana?

I occasionally feel panicked about my thesis. I'm hitting one of those moments again. As Mr. Bennett comments, "But don't despair; it'll pass, and no doubt more quickly than it should."

Thursday, January 8, 2009

I am still busy with work and avoiding my thesis. I got an inquiring email from a committee member wondering if he could help in any way.
For a change I thought I would add some pictures I've taken at various times in the last couple of years.

I took a trip to visit Jen in California and we visited Point Lobos park.

A gorgeous wetland reserve near Seattle.

The rain forest in Washington. One of my favorite family vacations.

I recently found out that "Cool" from West Side Story is said to be the best number from a musical ever. I agree, so here it is.

I also wanted to include the dance at the gym, another great number.

I'm a pasta addict... especially with homemade ranch dressing.

Happy New Year's Day! I'm officially done moving and have only one more pile to sort through and that pile is going to wait. Yay.
I have some major work to catch up on. I wish I would get my paycheck; that might motivate me a little more.

Here's what I hope won't happen as I now use a park and ride to commute to Provo by bus.
