I turned in a draft of my introduction to the hardest chapter of my thesis today, since the previous rough draft I turned in wasn't very good. I'm not expecting to hear back from my chair for a while though. Speaking of Hawthorne... I watched Quiz Show with Amy. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. I really enjoyed it. Of course this time I noticed all the connections with Hawthorne's stories and some things from his life in the movie makes. The person who wrote it must have been a Hawthorne fan.
SPOILERS AHEAD if you haven't seen the movie-watch out.
Here are some of them: the main character suffering from unrevealed guilt and hyposcrisy, the downfall when the guilt is revealed, higher ups getting away with their part in the scandel, the son Julian Hawthorne (and Charles) committing fraud while trying desparately to follow in his father's footsteps, etc. Julian was a hack author and ended up selling fake shares in a mine.
