I totally agree with Jen that the beginning of Death Cab for Cutie's "I Will Possess Your Heart" sounds like early U2 (in addition to being very FJ). That bass and drums are a U2 rhythm with a really simple, echo-y guitar over the top. They just throw in a Coldplay piano part (which means that it comes from U2 originally as well-their new album has U2 footprints all over it-we know you love U2, Chris Martin, but come on!). The really long version lets you hear the U2-i-ness for longer.



Their other song "Cath..." seems like it could be a different angle on the story of Cathy from Wuthering Heights. It fits pretty well-a few chinks.
