HAPPY NEW YEAR'S!

Monday, December 28, 2009

It turns out, thankfully, that the pain in my thumb from the accident is just a sprain, not a fracture.

Merry Christmas everyone. Mine was great (despite the following:).
About two weeks ago, I rear-ended another car. My first accident in fifteen years. Everyone was okay (well almost, I am having some pain in my thumb that is getting worse, so I may have to go to the doctor to see what's up), but I still find it quite scary that on the information exchange between the two people involved I have to put my address. That woman could hunt me down. The other car didn't appear to have any damage, but I thought I would post pictures of the damage to my car.

The frost outlines the damage to the top part of my windshield (which was not done by my head thank goodness-although I don't remember the rock hitting it).

My younger brother is going to have a baby. The first grandchild for my parents in about three years, which is quite some time in our family. They are excited.

Tomorrow is the shortest day of the year. Yay for days getting longer.

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

Ahhhh, my home teachers gave me a mini gingerbread house for Christmas. How sweet:). I noticed that there was nutrition information given on the bottom. Do people actually eat those things?
They also gave me a copy of The Testaments (which my parents had already given me years ago), and I lied flat-out when they asked if I already have a copy.

A while ago I posted Bono and the Corrs doing a version When the Stars Go Blue and so I decided to check out the original version. It was great.

I also liked his Desire.

This is how I spent some of my time with Jen in California. Yes, I am hooked on the show. It doesn't compete with U2, but I am indeed hooked.

I had a great time in California. Sad to be back.

This has probably already been around, but I saw it on facebook today and thought this little LDS spoof of Twilight pretty good.

Twilight Years from Tom on Vimeo.

I've turned in the last thing I ever need to for my thesis this morning. Double wahoo.
I made a mega yummy acorn squash quesadilla today. Onions, green chilies, squash, cheese-yum, yum.
I am off to visit my friend Jen in California until Wednesday. Wahoo.

My interview for the online university job did not go as well as I hoped. I was really nervous. And whether it was due to my bad interview or the fact that two Hornes already work for my would-have-been future boss, I didn't get the job.
But to help us all forget about it I am including the following hilarious parody of history and the Beatles...

Thanksgiving was great. The first Thanksgiving without having a paper hanging over my head in a while. That was awesome. I spent lots of time with family and didn't get enough sleep. I've started my Christmas movie watching by kicking it off with While You Were Sleeping.

I didn't have to make more changes, whew. It was approved and is now sitting in the hands of the college awaiting their approval. I am breathing much easier.
Oh, and I have an interview with the online university a week from tomorrow. Exciting.

Monday, November 23, 2009

So the graduate chair had a few edits for me to make, but the worst part about it is, I have to use Adobe Acrobat Pro, which I can purchase for over 150$ or I can drive down to Provo to use. Hum. So this evening I made the forty minute drive to make 15 minutes worth of changes and then drove back (it was getting late). Argh. I might have more tomorrow. Argh.

Tuesday I applied for a job with the online university I worked for earlier. Haven't heard anything yet.
I am still waiting to hear back on the revisions I made, which is causing some heartburn because I think I am supposed to have turned it in to the department already.
In the mean time (I stole this from a friend's blog)...

Who knew that writing a new introductory paragraph would take me almost as long as writing a ten page paper? I hate introductions and conclusions.

Friday, November 13, 2009

I passed my thesis defense with minor revisions (thanks to them not really wanting me in the program any longer). There were some tough questions but there were also some I could answer pretty easily. I got so much support from people; it was amazing.
I listened to U2's "Beautiful Day" on the way home.

The anxiety has definitely settled in. I have been having nightmares all week about failing tests, having to teach a class that I don't know anything about, and watching Hawthorne's life. I know I shouldn't be so worried and I try to tell myself that, but apparently it doesn't get through to my unconscious:)

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

More Hawthorne stuff (don't worry, hopefully only a couple more weeks:).
Towards the end of his life he got sick and his wife said: "I am amazed that such a fortress as his stomach should give way." It appears that she had a way with words as well.

It's probably been around already and you've already seen it, but Lisa just showed it to me and I thought it was a hilarious spoof on social media: College Humor's Web Site Story.
