After having yet another draft rejected by my thesis committee, I am really wishing I had stuck with my high school love of chemistry. Oh wait, there's math involved.

Friday, June 5, 2009

I turned in another major revision of my thesis and got the assignment work had given me done and it's Friday and it's time to party!

I thought I would post a version of one of my favorite songs by Dolly Parton. I don't know many, but I like this one.

I'm scared of heights, so this would definitely be me on a roller coaster, if I hadn't blacked out already, that is.

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

I thought I would post these pictures of this "environmental" art, which is pretty funny and strangely cute.

I got my application for graduation in August signed and turned in today. My chair said he thinks my thesis defense in June is entirely doable. Wahoo. And very scary. My committee is scary.

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

I turned in a pretty good rewrite of a chapter yesterday. And there was much rejoicing.

I got a calling as activities co-chair yesterday. I think condolences are in order and that we should all appreciate the irony that the person who got the "most disgusting food" award now has to cook food for the entire ward at least once a month. To start off the calling right, the first major activity that I am in charge of, the ward campout, is the same days as my brother's wedding and dinner, etc. when my family is in from out of town. I feel bad about that.

I thought I would post a few cute pictures from the time spent with my great niece. She really likes to make faces.

And the birth of another great niece-Katelyn at 6lbs 6 oz.

It is a little blurry-I know.

I am going to try and post a video and we'll see if it works. Here she is making a slam dunk. I had a really cute one of her walking on a little path through the yard that she makes at least fifty times a day, but I accidentally erased it.

I am excited for the season finale of Bones tonight and am, again, ashamed to admit it. As several people well know, I think a thesis does strange things to your brain.

Wow, almost a week since I last posted.
I am currently watching my great niece while my niece is in the hospital having her second child by c-section. She is a very cute two year old and I will have to post some cute pictures as I get them this weekend. It is kind-of funny that she is having her baby on mother's day, but it was the only time that worked out for her doctor. May is a busy month for babies I guess.

Hum, an update.
I turned in some of my thesis and got some feedback. I try to keep on truckin despite lack of hope.
Last week I watched season four of Bones online and I am more than thoroughly ashamed.
I sang in church choir yesterday and that was fun. Although, despite the fact that I have been learning to sing the alto part for many years now, I am much worse than at other times. Yesterday was one of those.
I wrote in my family newsletter that we do once a month to update everyone. It was a very short paragraph, like it has been for the last six months.
It's been so long since I did online conference calls that I forgot about the one this morning. Agony. That looks good for the boss. Oh well.
I'm actually doing alright despite all of this. Could be better. Could be a lot worse.

Here is a dance number from Sweet Charity that is so cool. It is some great Bob Fosse mixed with popular sixties moves, and as my American Humanities professor said, "You can't keep your eyes off of her." Her moves are amazing (though I have a feeling he was referring to something else).

Here's the link if it doesn't work.

(Oh BTW, Beyonce did a spin-off of this scene in a music video.)

Here is another scene from this movie. A little hippie religion (maybe a little blasphemous?).

I went to the zoo a little bit ago with my neice and her family. Here are some pics from that.

I figured out how to transfer my cassette tapes to digital files. So far it has worked great. I am excited.

Here is the set up-1 cord between tape player and computer.

Here is a screen shot of the free-to-download program Audacity that allows me to edit my recordings.

I can't remember who showed me this oh so long ago, but this is pretty funny. I didn't know Christopher Walken could dance. Apparently he was in quite a lot of musicals in his day.

Here is a link if that one stops working.

Here is another version that someone edited to the song. Amazing dancers.

I have actually worked on my thesis every day for the last week. This is shocking. I have kept the last two deadlines I set for myself (even though the drafts weren't as complete as I would like). This is also shocking. I may even turn something else in this Friday. That would be shocking. Watch out world... I may have to move on with my life.

Happy Easter!

Happy allergies starting day!

Friday, April 10, 2009

I love Emma Thompson. Here she is in her early comedy troop days imitating the sickly Victorian poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Her relationship with her husband is one of those famous Victorian romances where everything was happily ever after (not unlike Hawthorne's). I thought the skit was pretty funny.

I read some theory for my thesis and the good news is I still enjoy it.

Many of you have heard of Frank Caliendo. I love the joke about Clinton in this one starting at about 1:25.
